Hello

I'm trying to connect to do our server with an existing local repository (currently using tortoisesvn)
Problem: whatever i try I get the error connection not possible.

I tried connecting via plink, but Smartsvn cannot find plink, i found an article (http://smartsvn.1697.x6.nabble.com/L...td3706070.html) but my version of smartsvn has no menu entry Repository?!?!?!?
(Using Version 7.5.4....) (see snapshot)

If I connect via public/private key, I get the error E210002: there was a problem ... and nothing more
(no idea what went wrong)

can somebody help me to get the system running?

i tried the RevisionGraph/'Show merge arrows' feature but it is unusable slow.
my repository has 6200 revisions and approx. 10 branches.
after i select the Query/'show merge arrows' menu item, it begins to load 'Natural history for...' and this takes over 30 minutes.

is this a known bug?
thanks.

SmartSVN 7.5 is EXTREMELY slow compared to SmartSVN 7.0

Specifically I'm comparing versions 7.5.5 and 7.0.7, but this has been an issue with all sub-versions of 7.5. I'm using Mac OS 10.8.4.

My svn working copy is about 15 GB. With SmartSVN 7.0.7, "local refreshing" takes about one second, but with SmartSVN 7.5.5, it takes about 30 seconds. (I'm using an SSD too.) Obviously that's not an acceptable performance decrease. Other operations such as updating, committing, reverting, and merging are also far slower in 7.5.5 by similar magnitudes.

To be clear, this is the *exact* same working-copy folder. The only difference is which version of SmartSVN I use to open that folder.

I'm using 7.0.7 for now which works just fine, but my company will certainly not be paying for any future upgrades until the performance issues are fixed.

Thank you!

After years of using the paid professional version of SmartSVN its time for me to say goodbye and try alternatives. The main reasons are the following:

1.) Slowliness:
SmartSVN is not speedy anymore as it used to be. It even freezes from time to time making working copies broken (recoverable with "Fix", nevertheless). You should be aware of it, it has been reported several times form different sources.
2.) Update-rate:
Subversion development is fast. It took too long for me and my team to get hands on a SmartSVN version working with v1.7+. It will be the same issue with v1.8+. I understand the reason (dependency on SVNKit), but its an issue.
3.) Bug-fixes:
Over the time I've reported quite some issues. Only a few of them were actually addressed. Usually I heard "we are working on it", "its on our [whatever] list" but nothing happened across major versions.
4.) Patch issues:
One major drawback I see is the compatibility with patches. We are working a lot with patches provided in unified diff format from other version control systems like GIT. While they apply w/o hazzle in software of competitors or even free, open-source software it was always a pain with SmartSVN. Its easy to reproduce: Put a project under version control with SVN and additionally, under GIT. Then try to apply patches from GIT. 90% will fail. Nevertheless, thats how todays development is, you are in a distributed team with different version control systems. Unified diff should really work reliable.

Don't take this as a hate-mail, I liked SmartSVN for a long time. There are still outstanding nice features I will definitely miss. I hope that I will return at some time in the future, but for now me and my team have to do a break and already switched to an alternative - for the sake of better productivity.

In the Local Directory I chose the directory that my source files are in and press Next.
In the Repository field I enter: "http://1127.0.0.1:9890/ubersvn".
I get the Processing Command window displaying an error

problems with revision compare

$

I've just done a migrate on existing SVN repository - we moved the SVN service to a different windows server machine - and I'm now having a problem with SVN compares.

SmartSVN complains that the existing file is not a directory, and that it has difficulty opening the file.

If you look at it, it is using the absolute path of the filename as a directory, and the same path as the filename itself

e.g

it complains that file '/BI/Data/cubes/f.xml' is not a directory,

and that it cannot open the file

'/BI/Data/cubes/f.xml/BI/Data/cubes/f.xml'.

I can open the files without a problem - but I cannot open previous versions of the files. It seems I am having difficult getting access to read the previous versions of a file.

Can somebody give me some idea of how I go about sorting this problem out ? Anybody heard of an issue like this previoulsy ?

Using Local IIS and Tortoise SVN with VS

$

Hello,

First year programmer who is trying to use Tortoise with a VS solution that requires a local IIS server. When I choose 'Get Solution From Subversion' from the VisualSVN menu item in Visual Studio, it physically downloads the solution, but the directory in Visual Studio, while correctly named, does not have a directory structure. When I click on it, it says there is no web site of that name. Two points: there is a working web site on a local installation of IIS with that name, and Tortoise has made the correct association to the solution, at least in terms of having the green dot, etc.

When I create a solution in Visual Studio that points to the web site, which in turn points to the directory downloaded by the SVN it works just fine. This is however outside the scope of Tortoise. So it seems to be an issue with Tortoise recognizing there's a working IIS on my system.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Solution: If SmartSVN is installed and owned by SYSTEM on Windows

Folks

SmartSVN 7.6 arrived and I installed it on Windows 7 using Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (from a Mac).

Yikes. It installed and was owned by SYSTEM. Can't Run It. Can't Delete It. Shhhhh-ugar. Fun on Friday.

A swift Saturday Google, found this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/

It worked. The solution: takeown and cacls, then delete it from Program Files (x86). Run the installer and "remove SmartSVN". Run the installer (on the real Desktop, not the Remote Desktop Doo-dah). Great Relief. SmartSVN 7.6 is alive and well.

It installed perfectly on MacOS-X 10.8.4 and Kubuntu 13.04/64. The SmartSVN team are Smart!

Question: When will SmartSVN support SVN 1.8?

Help, Need help with repositories

I have a situation with my job where we have software versioning in place.

We are having releases ever 2 weeks to a month.

for example we are currently working on

2.2.1.0 and 2.3.0.0

we have requirements for 2.3 and 2.2.1

any changes we make to 2.2.1 need to be replicated in 2.3

also what is going on is they are going back to previous versions and making other corrections to

2.2.0.0

and now 2.1.4.1 and 2.1.5.0 and adding a new version 2.1.5.1

this is getting to be a little too much to keep up with and we have a team in china working with us also, and I am working and managing the project files.

we have repositories versions for 2.3, 2.2, and 2.1

the idea is that each repository will have the latest of its sub kind

well, we recently released 2.2.0.0 and then started on 2.2.1.0 and then they made a bunch of changes to 2.2.0.0 and then released the package

then the chineese made changes to the files that we broke off (out of repositories) after the package was released and then stuff didn't work because the chineese wanted to replace files from 2.2.1.0 into 2.2.0.0 which may also compromise the integrity of everything.

I got reprimanded for not properly communicating with the chineese to stop making changes...

now, they want to have a separate repository for each an every release

what is the best strategy to keep up with this.

It seems like it is set up to fail and have crossover that is going to break. I have done the best I can do to keep versions of every system.

am I just in over my head or what?

Need to insert a directory into the path

Hi, I need some help with inserting a directory into the trunk path.

So, currently I have something like this;

Code:

Project_1
    branches
    tags
    trunk
        folder1
        folder2
        folder3
        etc...

I need to insert a directory, so it looks like;
Code:

Project_1
    branches
    tags
    trunk
        Container1
            folder1
            folder2
            folder3
            etc...

I need to keep all of the history of the files intact.

I tried using Move, but it seemed to lose all of the history.

Any way I can simply achieve this?

Thanks,
